Braves manager Walt Weiss joins “The Locker Room” ahead of Atlanta’s series finale in Pittsburgh to discuss the club’s recent shutout victory, the state of the bullpen, and how the team is navigating a challenging stretch before the All-Star break. Weiss shares his thoughts on the Pirates pulling a pitcher after six perfect innings, explains how modern pitch count decisions are made, and gives an update on key Braves contributors including Owen Murphy, Bryce Elder, Austin Riley, and Michael Harris II.
Yeah, Alex and I talk all the time, and a lot of it has to do with improving the roster, and he never never stops trying to do that. So he’s always searching and, you know, be honest with you. When you don’t hear from Alex, he goes underground.
He goes dark for a couple weeks. When when he comes back up for air, he’s probably gonna have a few more players with him. So that’s kind of how he operates.
He’s real stealthy. But, uh, you know, we have we have those types of conversations on and off throughout the year. It’s great. – Walt Weiss
