Georgia Tech head football coach Brent Key joined Chuck & Chernoff for a candid conversation about the direction of the Yellow Jackets program, the quarterback competition heading into 2026, and the mentality he’s building inside the locker room. Key described Georgia Tech as a team that embraces being overlooked, saying the program thrives on the idea that “we’re a bunch of rejects… it’s us against the world.” That chip-on-the-shoulder mindset, he explained, fuels the culture he wants his players to carry onto the field every week.
And at quarterback—I don’t have somebody’s little brother. I have Alberto Mendoza. We talk about that a lot. He has nothing to live up to except being the best version of himself.
That pressure can be unfair, but it is what it is. People will attach him to that. At the end of the day, he’s his own quarterback.
