ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves today signed OF Mike Yastrzemski to a two-year contract worth $23 million guaranteed, with the outfielder set to make $9 million in 2026 and $10 million in 2027. The deal includes a club option worth $7 million for the 2028 season, with a $4 million buyout. Yastrzemski has agreed to donate 1% of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation.
Yastrzemski, 35, appeared in 146 games last season between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals, compiling a .233/.333/.403 line with 17 homers and 2.8 bWAR. The Royals acquired him on July 31, and he proceeded to produce an .839 OPS with 1.0 bWAR over 50 games and 186 plate appearances with the club. He appeared at all three outfield positions between the two teams last season, including 133 games in right field.
A veteran of seven major league seasons, the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has hit .238/.324/.447 over 840 career games. He made his major league debut with the Giants in 2019 and played the entirety of his major league career with the club prior to his trade to the Royals last July. The outfielder, who bats and throws left-handed, garnered an eighth-place finish in NL Most Valuable Player voting in the 2020 season, and has averaged 3.3 bWAR and 24 homers per 162 games in his career.
A native of Andover, Mass., he is the grandson of National Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, who played the entirety of his 23-year major league career with the Boston Red Sox. Mike was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 14th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University, and was acquired by the Giants in a minor league trade in March of 2019.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta designated OF Michael Siani for assignment.
