In a time of divisiveness in politics and sports, few things can unite the city of Atlanta like Dragon Con! (Well, that and seeing the Mets implode, everyone loves that!)
Dragon Con 2025 was a change of pace for me – as my now teenage daughter wanted us to cosplay for the first time. Now I’ve dressed up for Dragon Con before, but never a full costume for the entire day. But it’s wild what kids can convince us to do. Her favorite show is “The Amazing Digital Circus” on YouTube, so we went full digital circus. And the funniest part was that dressing up in a full cosplay made the experience so much more fun. Everyone at Dragon Con is there to celebrate the culture of comics, anime, pop and so much more – and the spirit of inclusion and joy is present in everyone we interacted with. It was a fun and wild weekend.
The Walk of Fame continues to amaze me, as it was an all-time moment for me to see Christopher Lloyd up close and personal. My favorite movie as a kid (and still as an adult) was Back to the Future, and I got to see Doc Brown right in front of me. My daughter binged “Once Upon a Time” last year and was thrilled to meet Colin O ’Donoghue, who played Captain Hook in the show. And getting to meet the Muppet performers was another all-time joy, another institution of my childhood on full display.
If you’ve never experienced Dragon Con – from the parade, to the celebrities, to the amazing people all around – it’s something to behold. As always, I encourage you to get a pass and come spend a day amongst the happiest and most inclusive people you may ever meet in today’s world. Credit to the AMAZING volunteers that put this weekend together, of all the years I’ve attended this was the most fun I’ve ever had.
Great Scott!! Visit DragonCon.org and book out some time next Labor Day weekend. You’ll LOVE every minute of it.
