In the long run, you want to go to the right team with the right fit, with the right coach, with the right teammates. Because when you get drafted and then your coach steps down and they put in another coach and then he gets fired and then you put in another coach, both your aging quarterbacks, Phil Simms and Jeff Hostetler, both go from being in a quarterback battle to being retired, to being sent to another team. And then you’re breaking in a new quarterback, then all your Hall of Famers retire, LT retires, guys like Carl Banks, all those guys start leaving and now you start rebuilding.
That could be four or five years of your career, right? Or if you’re a receiver and you go to an offense where they don’t throw the ball, you’re not going to pile up any stats. So, that’s why I just encourage all the kids I talked to before this year’s draft, “Don’t worry about which pick you go, just hope that you go to the right team, the right situation.”
– Ed McCaffrey on being drafted by the right team vs. the first team.
Whether it’s raising four boys who’ve all had amazing football success, to the family’s new McCaffrey Protein Bites, to his own incredible NFL career – including three Super Bowl Championships – Ed McCaffrey has a terrific and engaging story to tell. This is a must listen to interview!
